A Regional Independent Schools Association
Client Challenge
The D.C. Council passed legislation that would change the reporting requirements for all schools in the District, including independent schools, regarding student enrollment, transfers, withdrawals, and excessive absences. Concerns were raised that the law and proposed regulations could significantly affect how independent schools manage their records.
AMC Solution
American Management Corporation monitored the proposed changes to the attendance reporting regulations and advocated the client’s position to the Chair of the Committee on Education and the general counsel of the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). The AMC team actively engaged in multiple discussions about the proposed regulations, conveying the client’s concerns and working to ensure that the new rules would not disrupt the reporting of enrollment, withdrawals, and excessive absences for independent schools. Moreover, the AMC team successfully facilitated collaboration between the client and OSSE, helping to draft a set of proposed rules that addressed many of the client’s concerns while enabling OSSE to achieve its objectives.
Results
As a result of these efforts, a set of proposed rules was drafted ensuring that the new regulations did not disrupt independent schools’ record management processes.
